Installing composite decking can be rather simple, especially for someone with some construction project experience. Cutting the composite decking boards to size, attaching them to a substructure or frame, and smoothing the edges and corners are usually the steps involved in the installation procedure. Specialised clips or fasteners are frequently included with composite decking to help with installation and guarantee a tidy, polished finish.

Using the area of each board (150 mm wide by 2200 mm long), we can approximate the number of decking boards needed. This comes out to 0.33 sqm per board. Calculate the width x length of the intended decking area, then divide the result by 0.33.

A simple example is below:

  • Decking area is 6m(l) x 8m(w).
  • To work out the m2 use the equation: (L) x (W) =m2 So, in this case it will be 6 x 8 = 48m2
  • We then divide the m2 by 0.33 in this case 48/0.33 = 145
  • You will then need 145 boards to cover the space, we do recommend adding 10% extra for mistakes and cuts. You would need 159 boards to complete this area.
